The Artist Behind the Work

I don't chase trends. I study traditions that are older than me, older than this city, and I try to carry them forward without cutting corners.

How It Started

Karl didn't fall into tattooing by accident. There was no spontaneous career pivot, no gap-year revelation. There was a kid in Montreal who couldn't stop drawing, who found tattoo magazines before he found social media, and who saw in those pages something worth dedicating a life to.

He picked up his first machine over ten years ago. The early years were spent the way they should be: learning, failing, studying under experienced artists, and building a foundation that was technical before it was creative. No shortcuts. No fast-tracking.

That foundation is why the work looks the way it does today.

Philosophy: Discipline Over Decoration

There are two ways to approach tattooing. One treats it as content - something to post, something to trend, something to move on from. The other treats it as craft - something to study, something to refine, something that carries the weight of a centuries-old tradition.

Karl chose the second path. Every piece begins with the same question: does this honor the tradition it comes from?

Custom Design Only

No flash pulled off a wall. No copying someone else's tattoo. Every piece is drawn for the individual.

Technical Precision First

Clean lines, proper saturation, correct needle depth. The fundamentals are not optional.

Respect for Tradition

The visual language of Traditional and Irezumi tattooing exists for a reason. Karl works within that language fluently.

Honest Consultation

If an idea won't work - wrong placement, wrong style, wrong size - Karl will tell you. That's protecting your investment.

10+ Years of Focused Craft

  • Thousands of completed custom tattoos across both Traditional Western and Japanese Irezumi styles
  • Large-scale work: full sleeves, back pieces, leg sleeves, chest panels, and bodysuits in progress
  • Deep study of historical tattooing, from ukiyo-e woodblock prints to the American traditional lineage
  • A reputation built on referrals, not algorithms

The Shop: Old Port, Montreal

Karl works out of Oly Anger Tattoo, located at 9 rue De La Commune O in Montreal's Old Port. The shop reflects the same values as the work: deliberate, focused, and free of anything unnecessary. Appointment-only sessions in a clean, quiet, professional environment.
